As a provider that specializes in the needs of the HPN consumer, monitoring and understanding the nutrition needs of our consumers is what sets us apart.
The National Board of Nutrition Support Certification (NBNSC) http://www.nutritioncare.org/nbnsc/ is an independent credentialing board established in 1984 by the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.) that administers the Certified Nutrition Support Clinician® (CNSC®) credential. Through its credentialing program, NBNSC determines the body of knowledge needed to have an understanding of nutrition support that requires the expertise and knowledge of multiple health-care professionals including physicians, dietitians, pharmacists, physician assistants, and nurses. NBNSC’s mission is to promote the enhanced delivery of safe and effective nutritional care through the certification of qualified clinicians practicing nutrition support. NBNSC has certified more than 4,200 nutrition support professionals. Nutrition support clinician certification is recognized for a period of five years at which time the candidate must retake and pass the Certification Examination for Nutrition Support Clinicians in order to retain certification.
The Mission of the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties(BPS) is to improve patient care through recognition and promotion of high-level training, knowledge, and skills in pharmacy through board certification. Nutrishare supports this mission through the training and certification of our pharmacists. Our commitment is to promote a better and healthier future for our consumers through excellence in clinical care and research.
BPS specialty certification is the pharmacist’s path to advancement in 21st-century medicine. The value of the BPS-certified practitioner registers throughout the health care continuum. As the complexities of patient care multiply, so will the need for new skills. Those clinicians who successfully expand their scope of practice by becoming certified will move up the continuum from traditional prescription provider to the manager of highly complex medication therapy. Nutrition Support Pharmacy addresses the care of patients who receive specialized nutrition support, including parenteral and enteral nutrition.
The nutrition support pharmacist has responsibility for promoting maintenance and/or restoration of optimal nutritional status, designing and modifying treatment according to the needs of the patient. The nutrition support pharmacist has the responsibility for direct patient care and often functions as a member of a multidisciplinary nutrition support team. Those who are granted certification in this specialty may use the designation “Board Certified Nutrition Support Pharmacist” and the initials “BCNSP,” as long as certification is valid.
Nutrishare congratulates our clinical staff members who have completed the nutrition support specialty certification and are now Board Certified.
